Lens on Atlanta at PBA
August 18, 2009
About seventy five members and their guests met for lunch in Studio A at Public Broadcasting Atlanta to learn more about Lens on Atlanta.
At Public Broadcasting Atlanta, service to others is a responsibility we proudly embrace. Today’s metro Atlantans are working harder than ever to build a stronger and brighter future for their families. In our increasingly sprawling area, we need a new way to share information that will make our region more connected, more cohesive and ultimately, more productive. To meet this need, PBA is developing Lens on Atlanta as a service for the community.
Lens on Atlanta is the first public broadcasting-sponsored, regionally-focused online community in the country. It has three main areas to be rolled out in phases: civic engagement, education and the arts. Our first phase, Public Square, provides a free social networking platform to connect metro Atlanta citizens, institutions and elected officials to encourage citizen empowerment and discourse and, ultimately, effect positive change in Atlanta.
Our future roll-out phases focus on sharing the currency of our new millennium — information — in the form of educational resources and content to help our citizens better understand the diverse Atlanta community and the strength of our cultural arts offering.
PBA’s mission is to educate, entertain and empower the communities we serve. Lens on Atlanta does just that - by connecting people to each other and the larger Atlanta community. Our promise is to make Lens on Atlanta a balanced platform for conversations, debates and civil discourse. This site thrives on user-generated content, so please take a moment to contribute — create your profile, share an item of interest, comment on one of our blogs. This is your community and your place to connect, collaborate, and create change.
