Lynne Rossetto Kasper of The Splendid Table
January 27, 2010
About one hundred Cornerstone members and their guests met in Studio A to hear Lynne Rossetto Kasper. A delicious sandwich and soup lunch was provided by Sarah Rick and Mason McDonald of The Stone Soup Kitchen. At the end of the lunch, Lynne Rossetto presented Sarah with an autographed copy of her latest book.
Lynne opened her presentation by thanking everyone for their support of Public radio. Without Public Radio, she said, many programs would not be on the air. Public radio gives the program time to develop its structure. She joked that purgatory for her would be listening over and over to recordings of the first two years of The Splendid Table!
Lynne entertained the group with stories from her childhood, a short time she lived as an adult in Brussels and people she has interviewed on the show. One of the most interesting was when she interviewed Antarctic explorer, Ann Bancroft. Ann and her fellow explorer spoke over the phone to Lynne from a spot about seventy miles from the South Pole.
She told us that one of her most memorable meals was with her husband eating strawberries and Crème Friache overlooking the Normandy beaches.
