Dragon Boat Atlanta
Although centuries old, the traditional Chinese sport of dragon boat racing first came to the Atlanta area as an exhibition sport in the 1996 Olympics. Around the same time, a number of medical researchers started to recognize the benefits of upper-body exercise for women recovering from breast cancer surgery. These two seemingly dissimilar factors combined to create the ideal circumstances for the launch of Dragon Boat Atlanta in 2004. While they compete in dragon boat festivals around the South and practice weekly on Lake Lanier, Dragon Boat Atlanta is not just a team; they’re also a floating support group for breast cancer survivors and their loved ones.
