Belly Dancing
Belly dancing, the Americanized name for Oriental dancing, is a very ancient form of dance with origins in North Africa and the Middle East. Contrary to popular belief, belly dancing was not created to entertain men; but a dance created by women for women of all ages and sizes representing fertility, childbirth, female sexuality and celebration. In the Middle East belly dancing is rarely done in the presence of men.
Belly dancing is recognized internationally and is becoming a part of mainstream America with classes and performances being commonplace. Atlanta is no different. The Nazeem Allayl Belly Dance Studio in Little Five Points is the only dance studio in Atlanta that teaches belly dance exclusively. The dance studio is owned by a professional belly dancer and all classes are taught by professional belly dancers in an inviting and nurturing environment that promotes creativity and self expression, builds self confidence, and provides a great physical workout in a creative way.
By dancing together, women get the opportunity to connect with each other and play off each other, each bringing their own personality and style into the dance.
