The Atlanta Black Rodeo Association (ABRA) was founded in 1991 by Keith Roberts. The goal is to preserve this aspect of African-American heritage, as well as to become a positive role model for minority youth.

A traditional rodeo features calf roping, barrel racing, steer wrestling, bareback riding and, of course, bull riding. "If we don’t pass this on," Keith Roberts told PBA30, "then it’s hard for these kids to do it by themselves. So if we don’t make this available to them, then nine times out of 10 it’s not going to happen. For anyone who is doing this now, somebody helped them."
