Ife Madzimoyo & Mausiki Scales

This summer, 19-year-old Ife Madzimoyo served as an intern at Atlanta’s National Black Arts Festival. Performer and educator Mausiki Scales is a family friend. Scales is in his 40s and performs internationally with the Common Ground Collective. At StoryCorps, Ife wanted to know about Mausiki’s beginnings.

Lee Rushing, of Flowery Branch, was known as Lisa Rushing growing up, but early on, he realized that his physical body didn’t match who he knew himself to be on the inside. He told his story to his partner, Allison Rushing.
