Sara Takele & Aarti Sahgal
Sara Takele fled her home country of Ethiopia decades ago. She has spent more than twenty years, now, navigating this country, not only as an immigrant, but as the mother of a special-needs son. Her son Abraham is 21 years old and autistic. While he doesn’t speak at all, Sara does, and has spent her life in the U.S. speaking for him. At StoryCorps Atlanta, she told her friend, Aarti Sahgal, about how Abraham’s autism has shaped her life. Recorded in partnership with Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities.
