March, 2005

Kim Goodfriend is the director of Arts & Entertainment at the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta (MJCCA). Under her leadership, visual and performing arts programming at the MJCCA has established a reputation for excellence in live arts experiences. Programs under Goodfriend’s supervision include: the Fine Family Art Gallery, the MJCCA Chamber Music Society, Jewish Theatre of the South, and its outreach program Project Impact Theatre. Additionally, in1992, Goodfriend founded the MJCCA’s Habima Theatre for Adults with Developmental Disabilities.

Goodfriend studied with concert pianist Pamela Ross for many years and was one of the youngest students to hold a solo recital at Mercer University. She has conducted synagogue choirs all over Atlanta, and was the director of the citywide choir of 200-plus voices for Israel’s 50th birthday in 1998. Goodfriend was associate conductor of the mixed choir of Israel’s Zimriya in 1992, leading a choir of over 300 singers from all over the world in the Jerusalem Centre for Performing Arts. She taught elementary school music for two years and now serves as a resource for choral directors all over the state.

As an arts producer, Goodfriend, along with Jewish Theatre of the South Artistic Director Mira Hirsch and MJCCA Board Chair Susanne Katz, chooses presentations that challenge audiences. The support of administration, combined with the culture of the MJCCA Board of Directors, make Goodfriend’s job a pleasure.

Goodfriend has also served on the board of the Georgia Tech’s Ferst Center for the Arts and as co-committee chair for the fine arts at the Greenfield Hebrew Academy. An Atlanta resident since grade school, Goodfriend holds a degree in engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
