The Freeway Series: Music from the Pacific Coast

Southern California is not just a mecca for dreamers. It boasts a thriving classical music scene, or rather, scenes. Top-notch concert series are as wide-ranging geographically as the terrain, and we've travelled the distance to bring you a cross-section of world-class music-making.
This season's concerts include an extremely rare concert performance of the late Henryk Górecki conducting his own Third Symphony. Also this season: Guitar virtuoso Pepe Romero plays music of Spain with the L.A. Guitar Quartet; you'll hear Viennese Classics with Santa Barbara's Camerata Pacifica, and hop on a Road Trip through California composers with Jacaranda: Chamber Music from the Edge of Santa Monica. Rising operatic star, tenor Alek Shrader (star of the PBS special, The Audition) sings a recital of art songs by Barber, Grieg, and more. And San Francisco Symphony Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas returns to his alma mater to conduct the USC Thornton Symphony, one of the world's great student orchestras, and to reminisce about his days as a USC undergraduate, working as rehearsal pianist with Igor Stravinsky and Jascha Heifetz. Program host and co-producer John Schneider is an internationally recognized guitarist, composer, author and broadcaster.
