Speedy Delivery!
More than three decades of public television viewers knew David Newell as Mr. McFeely on Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood. Host John Lemley sat down to talk with Mr.”Speedy Delivery!” himself about David’s new live performance, Mr. McFeely Remembers: A Tribute to Fred Rogers. David performs the show at the Center for Puppetry Arts tonight. In it, he shares memories of working with Fred Rogers for more than 30 years. David arrived at the WABE studio decked out in full “McFeely” regalia.
The show is part of the Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood Sweater Drive.

Valerie Jackson on Isabel Wilkerson
Isabel Wilkerson is a Pulitzer Prize-winning former Chicago bureau chief for the New York Times who’s now a professor of journalism and director of narrative non-fiction at Boston University. In her first book, The Warmth of Other Suns, she has documented the sweeping 55-year-long migration of black Americans across their own country. Valerie Jackson, host of WABE’s author interview program Between the Lines, recently spoke with Wilkerson about the book, and we brought Valerie in to talk about that conversation. We started by talking about what caused this enormous migration.
Isabel Wilkerson will also be talking about her book at the Atlanta History Center on Friday evening.

Sarah Lewis Wight is an Atlanta native who celebrated her 92 birthday this year not far from where she grew up in Ansley Park. Back then, the in-town neighborhood was largely forest and her grandparents lived nearby. Her son, Ward, was curious to know about his family and Atlanta in earlier days.

For the past three years, WABE’s Dave Barasoain and his team of producers have invited listeners to hear the city with a series of short segments focused on the people, places, and things of metro Atlanta. Atlanta Sounds premiered in September 2007 and has covered a spectrum of subjects since that time. Dave Barasoain, curator of Atlanta Sounds, joins us today.
