National Aviation Day
Today is National Aviation Day. With that in mind, we decided to remember a man who was arguably one of Atlanta’s most famous aviators. Charles Dryden was a Tuskegee Airman during World War II, and he was part of the first African American Fighter Squadron, the 99th. He died in 2008. WABE’s David Barasoain has this remembrance.

Atlanta Sounds - African Drum Class
Peter Marino teaches an after-school African drumming class at Drew Charter School. He started teaching around 2003 with kids who had ADHD, had special needs or who were autistic. He says he did it as a way for the kids to experience music. He confides that and as much fun as it is for people to listen to music, it’s even more fun to play.

A Confederacy of Dunces Hits the Stage
Since it was published in 1980, John Kennedy Toole’s farcical novel A Confederacy of Dunces has enticed playwrights and filmmakers alike, but securing the rights to adapt the work has been a rare feat. Here in Atlanta, we have the good fortune of seeing a world premier of the stage show, adapted by Theatrical Outfit’s Executive Artistic Director, Tom Key.
The play opened on Saturday. We were able to get a front row seat at a rehearsal, and a conversation with the creators.

Atlanta Ballet’s New Home
Finishing touches are still being added to new headquarters for the Atlanta Ballet. The 81-year-old organization is moving from its old location on West Peachtree Street in the heart of Midtown, to West Midtown. It’s an area, that until very recently, was known only for its large warehouses.
Host John Lemley started the tour by speaking with the Ballet’s Alice Johnston.
