Ahh, the days of dial-up and online bulletin boards. This week marks the 20th anniversary of the World Wide Web, and we’ve been asking listeners to call in and tell us about their earliest experiences with the Internet. Here are some of the responses we received.

Dali At The High
The odd mustachioed face stares out from Atlanta banners, buses, billboards, and even a Delta 757 jet. It’s the iconic image of the painter Salvador Dali, perhaps best known for his surrealist painting of melting clocks, “The Persistence of Memory.” The High Museum has put together an exhibit called Dali: The Late Work that reconsiders the latter four decades of the prolific and mischievous artist’s career. WABE’s Myke Johns got a preview of the exhibit and has this report.
The Mad Genius is going to be kept pretty busy while he’s in town as well, with a film series, lectures, a party, and much more.

Youth Orchestra Promotes Social Change in Atlanta
Venezuela’s National Youth Orchestra system, known simply as El Sistema, was founded by musician, conductor and politician Jose Antonio Abreu in 1975. Its goal was to provide a real musical education to kids in under-served communities. Today, El Sistema caters to almost 400,000 students in that country.
Inspired by the Venezuelan program, the Atlanta Music Project will launch this fall, in an effort to promote music education and social change for local at-risk youth. One of its founders, bassoonist Dantes Rameau, sat down with WABE’s Lois Reitzes for a chat about the Atlanta Music Project and El Sistema. They started by talking about Gustavo Dudamel, the new conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, one of the best known graduates of The System.

A Conversation with Rita Dove
The upcoming weekend marks the close of Darker Face of the Earth at Actors’ Express.
Essential Theater Company is performing the play, which was written by former US Poet Laureate Rita Dove.
It’s a re-telling of Oedipus, the classic Greek tragedy in which a king tries unsuccessfully to avoid his fate of killing his father and marrying his own mother. Dove’s play takes place on a slave plantation in the American South. WABE’s Lois Reitzes spoke with Rita Dove about the play. She began by asking: Why Oedipus?
