Art Along the Beltline
This month, nearly eight miles of Atlanta’s Beltline corridor are opening up to pedestrians and bicyclists. To celebrate, a number of artists have created an art project along this stretch. If you live in the metro area, chances are you’ve heard about the Beltline. Since the idea for the loop of rails, trails, and green-space was conceived of in 1999, it has become a top-priority transportation and revitalization mission for the City of Atlanta. Earlier we spoke with WABE’s Aleck Ragsdale, who is working on a story about its al fresco artwork. He began by telling us a bit more about its purpose.

A Conversation with the Director of Broadway’s Fences
A Broadway revival of the drama Fences, which stars Denzel Washington, has garnered ten Tony nominations, including Best Actor and Best Director, for Kenny Leon. Leon worked extensively with the show’s late playwright, August Wilson. Before this production, WABE’s Lois Reitzes sat down with Leon, who also leads Atlanta’s True Colors Theater. The two discussed the impact he hoped Fences would have.

StoryCorps Atlanta- David Wall & Kimberly Walker
When David Wall was ready for a new challenge ten years ago, the suburban fire chief signed up as a volunteer for “CASA,” the new Court Appointed Special Advocates program in Clayton County.
CASA trains volunteers to advocate in court on behalf of children in state custody. These days his supervisor is Kimberly Walker. She asked David about how he got started as a CASA volunteer and about some meaningful moments he has had.

Last Thursday at the Brick Store pub in Decatur, the Georgia Center for the Book unveiled its list of the 25 Books All Georgians Should Read. WABE’s Myke Johns was there and brings us this story.
