Wynton Marsalis
There are few musicians as versatile as trumpet player Wynton Marsalis. He is equally comfortable playing jazz or classical music. He is not only an arts advocate, music educator, and the Artist Director of Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York, but Marsalis is also a composer. His Blues Symphony will be performed tonight by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Late last year WABE’s Lois Reitzes spoke with Wynton Marsalis about the commission and about working with ASO conductor Robert Spano.

Disobedience: Art as Agent of Change
The art world has frequently been on the pulse of social and political upheaval throughout history and right now at Georgia State University, an exhibition is attempting to show how artists are responding to the issues of modern life throughout the world. Disobedience: Art as Agent of Change is currently on display. WABE’s Myke Johns headed down there to find out more about it.

The Spruill Gallery has an exhibition called Run For Cover. It’s a look at album covers that has defined and influenced our experience of music, and shaped our lives over the past few decades. Hope Cohn is director for the Spruill Gallery and she’s here to talk about the exhibit.

Georgia History: UGA Integration
On January 9, 1961, Hamilton Holmes and Charlayne Hunter (now Charlayne Hunter-Gault) became the first black students admitted to the University of Georgia. Georgia State professor of history and Director of the Center for Neighborhood and Metropolitan Studies, Tim Crimmins talks about the controversy surrounding this date in Georgia history.
