Each weekday at noon City Café host John Lemley serves up ‘a plateful of classics and a variety of sides’. The program mostly includes classical music, but also features NPR and BBC news breaks as well as stories on culture, arts and other interesting events happening in and around Atlanta.

Postcard Winners Summer 2009
WABE wishes to congratulate the three winners of our Summer Postcard Contest. Mary Gillespie wrote in from Suwannee with her postcard of a piece of artwork from the Hunter Museum in Chattanooga. Carlene Tejada of Douglasville told us about her trip up to New Hampshire to visit her 98 year old mother. And Alva Bentley of Decatur wrote in to tell us about how much the song Lieberstraum II meant to her and her late husband. All of us at City Café would like to give a very warm and sincere thanks to everyone who wrote in with their postcards in this summer of 2009.

Literary Death Match
The Decatur Book Festival this past weekend saw some interesting events that you wouldn’t normally associate with literature and books, none were more far out there than the Literary Death Match: young upstart author Michael Muhammad Knight, whose work fuses the rebellion of punk rock with serious musings on the Muslim faith and has earned praise as the Jack Kerouac of American Islam, challenging Atlanta’s resident pro wrestler (and BBQ restaurateur) Abdullah the Butcher. WABE’s Myke Johns was ringside that Saturday when things went wrong.

Michael Muhammad Knight’s books include Osama Van Halen and Blue Eyed Devil: A Road Odyssey Through Islamic America. His forthcoming book, Journey to the End of Islam, comes out this December.

Antiquarian Book Fair
It’s hard for him to pick a favorite, but WABE reporter Jim Burress holds in high regard one famous piece of American literature. It’s placed prominently on his shelf that stands out from the paperbacks and recent publications beside it.
And as Jim tells us, he would sell it in a minute if he could get anything for it.
