Monet’s Water Lilies
New York meets Atlanta in the High Museum’s new exhibition of paintings by Claude Monet. The centerpiece of the show is Monet’s “reflections of clouds on the water-lily pond,” a 42-foot-wide painting known as a “triptych” which is owned by New York’s Museum of Modern Art. “Monet’s Water Lilies” opens tomorrow. WABE’s Lois Reitzes recently spoke with the High Museum’s director of collections, David Brenneman — about the exhibit. On Saturday afternoon David Brenneman is actually giving a free lecture about the exhibit and the life of Monet.

Urban Hikes
Summertime is finally here and the great outdoors is beginning to beckon, perhaps you’ve been thinking of hitting the trail. Now when you think of hiking you most likely don’t think of concrete, neon, and skyscrapers. Well, Eli Dickerson does, he’s the founder of Urban Hiking Atlanta. Host, John Lemley spoke with Dickerson.

Remembering The Orly Plane Crash
The Orly Plane Crash of June 3rd 1962 is a historical date for the city of Atlanta. It was on that date when 122 members of the Atlanta Arts Association were killed in the Paris plane crash. After the crash outpouring of support came from all over the country and even the world. Within a short time millions of dollars had been donated on behalf of the Atlanta Arts Association. That led to the construction of the Memorial Arts Center which later became the Woodruff Arts Center. Milton Bevington knew many of the people on the plane that day. His wife and mother-in-law were also killed in the disaster. Today in Atlanta, the tributes to those that died on June 3rd, 1962 include the great Rose Window in the Cathedral of St. Philip and a gift from France, Auguste Rodan’s, “The Shade” outside the Woodruff arts center. Producer David Barasoain has this look back at the significance of this date in Atlanta history.

Larry King
Last Sunday veteran broadcaster Larry King was in Atlanta, speaking at the Marcus Jewish Community Center. His new book My Remarkable Journey is now out and he was at the JCC to talk about the book and his life as an interviewer. It was just before the event that WABE’s David Barasoain spoke with King to discuss not just the book, but about Kings estimated 50-thousand interviews.
Grady High School Graduation
