Sally Bethea is the Executive Director and Riverkeeper of UCR. Established in 1994, Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper. Its an environmental advocacy organization where members work to protect and restore the Chattahoochee River Basin, the drinking water source for 3.5 million people.

John Baker is the Urban Forestry Manager for Trees Atlanta. Here he’s working with the city’s Department of Watershed Management to capture water from a hydrant that the city is testing. Water from this hydrant would have gone to waste, but instead is captured and used on trees around the city. Trees Atlanta works to protect and improve the city’s urban spaces by planting and maintaining trees.

Canterbury Tales
More than 700 years ago, Geoffrey Chaucer penned The Canterbury Tales, a collection of stories depicting life in olde England from many perspectives. Adding yet another perspective to Chaucer’s classic work is Atlanta’s Shakespeare tavern, who will be performing the Canterbury Tales through March. Recently we spoke with the production’s artistic director Jeff Watkins about the Canterbury Tales and the company’s unique interpretation of them.

Three days a week women over 50 from different parts of Atlanta meet at the Dynamo swim club in Chamblee for water aerobics class. Most of them are here for class that gives them a low impact exercise option. To pass the time during lessons many of them sing old songs - one of which dates back to 1881. Some of their favorites are Bicycle Built for Two, Sweetly Sings the Donkey , and Row, Row, Row Your Boat.
The most interesting thing, when watching the class, is the way the ladies seemingly transform back into girls, laughing and giggling … at least when the instructor isn’t looking.

Ken Moss Jr., on left, is a 7th generation blacksmith. In this photo he’s working as a ‘striker’. His father Ken Moss, on right, is working here additionally as a ‘holder’ where he marks where he wants his son to strike the piece of iron. Ken Moss started working at his grandfather’s shop on West Paces Ferry when he was six year old. The shop has since moved to a neighborhood in Roswell. The father sometimes jokes that blacksmithing is the oldest legal profession in the world.
