Less is More (More or Less) is part of an ongoing collaboration between Atlanta-based composer Mark Gresham and percussionist Stuart Gerber. Savanah Music Festival
Georgia’s largest musical arts festival returns on Wednesday as the Savannah Music Festival gets under way. Now in its 21st year, the 18-day Festival focuses on both the musical heritage of the South as well as international musicians. Aside from the music, one of the top draws of the Festival is the city itself. The event is known for showcasing the intimate venues of historical downtown Savannah. Song writer Johnny Mercer is also being recognized.
Orlando Montoya of Georgia Public Radio has not only lived in Savannah since 1998, but is also a licensed tour guide for the City. Recently he spoke with WABE’s John Lemley.

Tent Meeting
What do a owner of a local pool-hall/drinking emporium, an embittered farmer, an agonizingly self-conscious preacher and a traveling evangelist all have in common? Why, a passion for rousing gospel music, of course! “Tent Meeting,” directed by Theatrical Outfit’s very own Tom Key, with musical direction by Ann-Carol Pence. It is a Canadian blockbuster that chronicles, in four-part harmony, one parched day in the 1930s life of a small prairie town. John Lemley spoke with one of the actors from the play, Daniel May.
“Tent Meeting” runs through April 5th.

Hollis Gillespie Cupcakes
Anyone who’s been even a casual reader of Creative Loafing or Atlanta Magazine is probably familiar with the name Hollis Gillespie. You’re probably familiar with her books—the most recent of which, Trailer Trashed, is the only one we’re comfortable naming here. You may even have spotted her in a number of places—being interviewed by Jay Leno, being heckled by her daughter at a book signing, or you may have bumped into her at Kroger and wondered why her cart was full of cake mix.
WABE’s John Lemley paid her kitchen a visit to get a taste of Mae’s Killer Cupcakes, which can be found at Danneman’s in the Old Forth Ward and Stone Soup Kitchen in Grant Park (sorry, we didn’t make off with the recipe).

Spamalot with Chamberlin
The Kingdom of Spamalot has crowned a new king and is setting up court in Atlanta through Sunday. Richard Chamberlain has shed his title as “King of the Miniseries” and has taken on the role of King Arthur for the national tour of Broadway’s Monty Python hit. Richard Chamberlain is in Atlanta this week starring in Spamalot, which premieres tonight at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre.

Phoenix Files
This month the Atlanta Preservation Center is hosting its 6th annual Phoenix Flies, what it calls “A Citywide Celebration of Living Landmarks.” Phoenix Flies are made up of more than 100 events over the course of 15 days. There are guided tours and lectures, not to mention open houses galore at dozens of historic sites around Atlanta. Boyd Coons, executive director of the Atlanta Preservation Center recently spoke with WABE’s John Lemley.
