Latke Cooking
on Atlanta Sounds

Amanda Bunder teaches kids at Rambam Atlanta Day School. She cooks latkes for her students in December in celebration of Hanukkah.
According to Bunder there is a symbolic meaning for latkes, a mix of potatoes and onions shallow fried in oil. The Festival of Lights happened when a small pitcher of oil -- just enough for one day -- lasted for eight. So at this time of year she says that people of the Jewish faith traditionally eat foods cooked in oil.
