Chickens
on Atlanta Sounds
No one actually keeps track of how many chickens are in Atlanta. But one chicken owner says there could be thousands in the city. During its egg laying years a chicken will lay about 260 eggs a year, about 5 a week. All of the eggs in grocery stores are unfertilized which means they can't be used in hopes of hatching a baby chick. So most local chicken owners will buy 15 baby chicks and forgo the purchase of a rooster. Go here for the basics of raising your own chickens.
