A Conversation With Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr.
Sunday, Oct. 1, 2017 at 5 p.m. | The Carter Center | Atlanta
Acclaimed historian and professor Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr. will engage in a dialogue about his life and career, contextualizing the national broadcasts of the fourth season of his award-winning series "Finding Your Roots," premiering in October on PBA30. Gates will give a behind-the-scenes look at how the show is produced and how his team creates the “Book of Life” for featured guests in the "Finding Your Roots" television series. The event will begin with a members-only reception as well as previews of highlights from the new season of "Finding Your Roots." PBS host Lyn May will act as the evening’s moderator.
“We are all connected to larger stories that have played a role in shaping who we are as people and as a nation,” said Gates.
“The DNA technology of today opens the doors to discovering the past in new ways, allowing us to learn more about our history than ever before. This new season will continue to inspire people to find out more about their own personal family stories, and spark an interest among young people in genetics, anthropology, history, and the pursuit of science.”
This is a rare and special opportunity for PBA30 supporters to get up close and personal with a modern griot, Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr., one of the most honored storytellers of our time.
