S.M.A.R.T. Moves Chess

S.M.A.R.T. Moves Chess is a mentoring program at the Fulton County Juvenile Court in downtown Atlanta. A group of court officers wanted an extracurricular activity for kids in the court system. That led to the creation of the S.M.A.R.T. Moves program. Once a week, kids play games of chess against each other and adult volunteers. Program coordinator Mustafa Mahdi says the program provides a positive outlet for the kids and teaches them to “think before they move.”
