Watch Glass Harp on This Is Atlanta from PBA30, Atlanta's PBS StationGlass Harp

Brien Engel can make a glass sing. Sure, anyone with a wet finger can produce a note from the rim of a wineglass, but Brien plays them as a musician would any other instrument.

He first assembled a collection of musical glasses for use in a theatre production and was so intrigued by the sound that he went on to build what he calls his “glass harp,” a collection of over fifty glasses of different shapes and sizes

Now, he visits schools and libraries and uses the glass harp to share lessons about the physics behind the music. In addition to demonstrating such principles as friction and vibration, he also uses bowls, bird whistles, turkey calls, bottles, and musical saws to show that there is music in the most unlikely things.
